A puppet play based on Estonian fairy tale The Orphan’s Hand-Mill.
Once upon a time there lived a steady miller, who never let his mill stones stand still in order to gain wealth and make his lazy wife happy. Although they had no children, they were pleased with their life and each other. Years went by and the day came when the old miller died of endless hard work in the mill. The spoiled woman was left all alone in the large farm.
Where could I find a new worker, a hand-mill mover, the mill woman thought. Unfortunately there was no-one else to be taken than a young orphan girl. She had to work hard in the mill from dawn to dusk. But after a while it started to seem to the miller’s wife that all the mill work got done peculiarly quickly. Was there someone who was helping the girl? Or was there some other secret, maybe even some miracle tool..? You’ll get the answer when the play has been played!
