Permanent exhibition

The majority of the Centre for Puppet Arts comprises a museum of theatre puppets depicting the history of puppet theatre art in Estonia and the world to visitors through puppets, words and pictures.

The museum features a ‘Puppets from around the world’ room, with displays of puppets from different places and made using different forms of technology, and an exhibition on the history of the Estonian State Puppet Theatre.

The room dedicated to Ferdinand Veike, the founder of the Estonian State Puppet Theatre, showcases the most important puppets from the grand master’s work and other material about his life.

Braver visitors can venture into the spine-tingling ‘Chamber of horrors’.

The basement level of the museum boasts a wondrous picture machine with a video screen and 160 coloured buttons – pressing which will play the voices of people who have worked in the theatre of the years in extracts of their roles, the songs they have sung and their thoughts.

One of the latest innovations the Museum of Puppet Arts makes use of is information screens based on the multitouch system familiar to users of the iPhone. The museum is also the first place in Estonia to use unique RQ code tickets, which identify and guide visitors according to their target group and using one of four languages.
