This week NUKU theatre and museum celebrates its 65th season. The next episode of ETV’s show Kontakt will be filmed today and many birthday events in the theatre and museum house happen this Sunday.

Television show Kontakt, which features NUKU’s birthday episode will premier on ETV March 17. This week’s guests are Helle Laas and Are Uder. “Helle and Are combined have been working at NUKU for 89 years” says show host Taavi Tõnisson.

The theatre celebrates the birthday during the whole season, though the main events will happen in March. “We have just introduced two new shows: at the beginning of March we premiered Birds and a few days ago we had an opening of Weepie’s Whispers. The last one is a special one: this is the first time in the history of NUKU, when a production is created specifically for children under the age of 1, “ says Tõnisson.

On March 19, NUKU team will celebrate the birthday with a job-exchange day, where the theatre audience can also participate.

“Job-exchange day will give the actors and members of other teams opportunities to try other jobs. You may see actors working at the box office, cafe or cloakroom. In addition, the sound manager will be in charge of the stage and the lighting manager will try work in customer service” explains theatre manager Joonas Tartu.

Members of the administration team, such as office manager, senior ticket vendor, marketing manager and IT-specialist will take part in an experiment - create a performance based on an Estonian children’s book. The shows public rehearsal is open for the audience.

NUKU museum, which turned 7 on March 7, will give the public opportunities to try out different roles in theatre and “walk in their shoes”. In addition, current productions will still run accordingly and the audience can participate in workshops and book reading sessions.

Theatre’s 65th season will also see a new production Timm Thaler, or the Traded Laugher, which premiers on April 30, visual theatre festival NuQ Treff at the beginning of June and a Summer show Man, who didn’t do anything, which premiers on July 2.
