The premiere of Bon Voyage and Other Lies, a theatre production by NUKU theatre and director Yael Rasooly, will take place on September 23 at the Festival Mondial de Marionnettes de Charleville-Mézières, France.

The festival is one of the biggest and most important puppetry festivals in the world. Bon Voyage is the first production of NUKU theatre to attend the festival.

The production is directed by Yael Rasooly who adapted several short stories by Etgar Keret, a famous Israeli writer. The award winning director and puppeteer Yael Rasooly continues to expand her storytelling language using paper-photo collage and object theatre. The show reveals the tension between what is seen on the surface and what is really taking place inside each character’s mind, under the skin.

For NUKU theatre this is the first international premiere. The artistic director Mirko Rajas says that the event is important to NUKU as well as to the Estonian theatre. „Festival Mondial de Marionnettes de Charleville-Mézières is comparable to the Avignon theatre festival. We are excited to get personally acquainted to the festival as well as introduce Estonian puppetry to the audience of the festival.“

Director Rasooly and her crew has spent the last six months working in Tallinn where the final version of Bon Voyage and Other Lies was born. The Estonian version is performed by Kaisa Selde, Katri Pekri and Andres Roosileht. That version will continue on in the repertoire of NUKU theatre for the upcoming years. The international version will travel across the world with Yael Rasooly. In France, the shows will be in French and English.

„I feel privileged to be working with the Estonian actors. They have really put themselves into the process and breathed life into it in many ways,” comments Rasooly.

Bon Voyage and Other Lies is funny, surrealistic and wacky mosaic of identities and tales taking the audience on a trip to irresistible chaos. Cast: Kaisa Selde/Yael Rasooly, Katri Pekri/Gili Beit Hallahmi, Andres Roosileht. Director, Script: Yael Rasooly (Israel). The premiere is on September 23 at 16:00 hours. The show is co-produced with Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes de Charleville-Mézières. NUKU travels to France with the help of Estonian Ministry of Culture, Estonian Endowment Fund and Embassy of Israel in Helsinki.
