Plexus Polaire
FRANCE/NORWAY

A wild hallucination around the death-bed of Valerie Jean Solanas (1936–1988): the most beautiful girl in America, the talented psychology student who spent her life going in and out of mental institutions, the first intellectual whore, writer, radical feminist, creator of the SCUM Manifesto, the woman who shot Andy Warhol… A character that is complex, multi-sided, outrageous and absolutely human.

Inspired by Sara Stridsberg’s novel “The Dream Faculty”, this performance is a collaboration between puppeteer Yngvild Aspeli and percussionist Ane Marthe Sørlien Holen. With life-sized puppets, broken songs, video-projections, a good dose of humour and a desert of solitude.

Plexus Polaire is an effective team of creators whose poetics connects images with words, sounds with gestures and imagination with material. The pivotal idea behind their stories is to simply sneak in and touch the most hidden human feelings. What happens in the process is a sensible encounter between a manipulator and his puppet, their simultaneous point of interest being re-examination and representation of feelings on stage, produced without uttering a single word. Since 2008, Yngvild Aspeli, Norwegian director of Plexus Polaire, meets in her shows a true team in confi dence and complicity dedicated to the artistic creation. 3 performances have been created together: “Signaux” in 2011, “Opera Opaque” in 2013, and “Cendres” (“Ashes”) in 2014.

Dark Room participates in the NuQ Treff festival in cooperation with the curator programme of Vaba Lava.
